may budget review: celebrating wins

In my last post I shared a little bit about my expenses for May and how I knew pretty early on that I wasn’t going to make my budget for the month. I spent a while agonizing about what I ignorantly thought were failures on my part, but realized that – on a very regular basis – I need to go easy on myself. So looking at the final results for my May budget are not surprising for me. Disappointing? A little bit, yeah. But, like I’m learning, I have to focus on my wins along with my losses.

This month I decided to finally get my eyelash extensions removed. Even though I enjoyed having them, I always knew they were a huge cash-suck. After seeing that in April I had spent $157 on the damned things, I made my final appointment to have them removed. $30 later I was sporting some rather bald-looking eyelids, but I didn’t feel any regret at all. Also, friend to friend, I started using BabeLash serum about 5x a week, and in a month I already have longer natural eyelashes than I have in years. I honestly didn’t think it would really work but it really does. Highly recommend.

I also decided to spend a little more time on selling my own clothes this month, and listed everything I could on Poshmark and Tradesy. I made $145.98 this May, and June is already off to a great start!

As for June, I know I have some expenses that are going to pop up and throw my budget off. I’m doing my best to keep those in mind as I make day-to-day purchase decisions, and I intend to come out of June feeling just a little bit more in control of my spending, especially in those areas that always trip me up.

Wish me luck!
